AIUM’s 2nd Edition of Medical Ultrasound Safety Publication
Since its release in 1994, more than 140,000 copies of the first edition of the AIUM’s Medical Ultrasound Safety publication have been sold. The new, 64-page 2nd Edition provides up-dated information on ultrasound bioeffects and biophysics, prudent use of the modality, and concepts pertaining to the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle. The new edition includes three CME self-study tests which, if completed successfully, allow readers to earn CME credits.
In the preface to the 2nd edition, Marvin C. Ziskin, MD, Chairman of the Revision Task Force, points out that the use of ultrasound imaging is rapidly expanding throughout healthcare and emphasizes the importance of education and awareness to ensure its safe and practical use. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Devices and Radiological Health suggests that manufacturers provide a copy of the AIUM’s Medical Ultrasound Safety publication with all ultrasound equipment they sell.
Medical Ultrasound Safety may be purchased online through the AIUM website.
