Fabrice Cuillier, MD, Deshayes M.,MD
Dept of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hôpital Félix Guyon, rue des Topazes, 97400 Saint-Denis, Reunion Island, France. Ph : 0262 90 55 22. This is a young woman scanned at 36 weeks of gestation. Her first two ultrasounds were normal. The current scan showed a normal left kidney. The right kidney was hypoplastic and hydronephrotic.
Transverse view of both kidneys. Note the difference in cross-section:
Parasagittal views demonstrating the difference in length (1st image = Right kidney, 2-3rd image: Left kidney)
The cortico-medullar differenciation of the two kidneys seems normal.
The baby was delivered normally. A postnatal sonogram was done on day 3, which confirmed the anomaly that was seen prenatally. The serum creatinine level was normal.
