This is a 28-year-old woman with unremarkable history scanned at 23rd week of gestational age. The ultrasound investigation revealed anencephaly combined with a median cleft lip, and hypotelorism. This suggests that the fetus had alobar holoprosencephaly and anencephaly. Here are some of the images we obtained.

Images 1, 2: 2D ultrasound: coronal sections through the fetal face showing striking orbits and absence of calvaria. Note the severe hypotelorism.

Images 3, 4: 2D ultrasound: parasagittal (left) and oblique parasagittal (right) planes through the orbit with missing calvaria.

Images 5, 6: 2D ultrasound: coronal sections through the fetal face showing striking orbits and median cleft lip.
