Fernando Heredia MD, Philipe Massoc MD

Ginecology & Obstetrical Department. Hospital Guillermo Grant Benavente, Concepci?n – Chile.

This 18 year old primigravida was scanned at 36 weeks 0 days. The examination demonstrated a large left-sided gastroschisis (there is also a 1 MB video-clip).  (see also Gastroschisis, left-sided)

She presented 5 days later with premature labor, and the amniocentesis confirmed a meconium stained fluid and amnionitis. The baby girls was 2560 grams with Apgar of 8-9-9-9-9. She went to surgery with a "tent" closure of the defect and is doing well. Note that the lesion is on the LEFT side of the cord insertion.
