The following image was obtained during a routine scan. One can see along a normal vein and artery a bright "line". Because of the discrepancy in size between the artery and the vein it was suspected that this represented a spontaneous thrombosis of the left umbilical artery.


And the diagnosis of umbilical vein thrombosis was indeed confirmed at birth:
