Dandy Walker malformation

Durandeau*, Cuillier F, MD**

* Echographist,  97400 Saint-Denis ** Department of Gynecology, Félix Guyon’Hospital, 97400 Saint-Denis, Ile de la Réunion, France.

This is a  41-year-old-woman, G4P3, referred to our department at 16 weeks due to a hydrocephaly. In our antenatal unit, we performed a scan and the ultrasound findings were:

  • hydrocephaly, with dilatation of the third ventricle
  • dilatation of the fourth ventricle, with absence of the vermis
  • two cerebellar hemispheres seemed normal

Because the patient had previous three cardiac strokes and the ejection fraction wass only 15%, the mother requested the termination of pregnancy. Amniocentesis was proposed, but not accepted. After delivery, the external analysis of the fetus was normal.

Note the absence of the cerebellar vermis

Note the hydrocephaly
