Case report

A 37-year-old woman (G2P1) with non-contributive history was sent to our office at 21 weeks of gestational age. Our examination revealed lumbar spina bifida.

Here are some images that we obtained.

Images 1, 2: 21 weeks of gestational age; Image 1 shows transverse scan of the "lemon shaped" fetal head; Image 2 shows transverse scan of the fetal head at the level of abnormally shaped cerebellum "banana sign".

Images 3, 4: 21 weeks of gestational age; Image 3 shows transverse scan of the fetal spine at the level of its lumbar defect; Image 4 shows sagittal scan of the fetal spine with lumbar spina bifida.

Images 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10: 21 weeks of gestational age; 3D images showing the fetus with lumbar spina bifida (images 6 and 8 represent fusion of the corresponding images 5 and 7 with drawings explaining position of the fetus).
